Young at Heart Program

The year 2020 was a challenging time for everyone, but it hit those aged 60 and older the hardest. The isolation felt by many led to a toll on both mental and physical health, particularly in the Cocalico Area where there were no dedicated senior centers or programs. As we walked through our community, it became clear that retired or isolated seniors lacked a place to find connection, joy, and hope.

At REAL Life Community Services, we recognized this need and in 2021, we created Young at Heart – a bi-weekly program designed to bring seniors together for connection, fun, and support. Our goal was simple: provide a space where those 60 and older could gather to build relationships, engage in activities, and find a community that cares.

Now, four years later, Young at Heart has grown into a thriving weekly program. Every Wednesday, we alternate between Faith United Evangelical Church and the Adamstown Area Library, where we enjoy games, craft projects, guest speakers, and so much more. The program has become a lifeline for many, offering not just activities but meaningful social interaction that’s so important for both mental and emotional well-being.

This year, our regular attendees took an active role in planning and hosting a summer picnic, contributing food items and making the event a celebration of friendship and community. It’s a testament to the power of connection and the resilience of our seniors.

Program Details:

  • When: Wednesdays from 9 AM to 11 AM
  • Where: 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at the Adamstown Area Library, 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church.

We welcome all seniors 60 and older to join us for fun, fellowship, and a chance to build lasting friendships. Together, we’re creating a vibrant community where no one has to feel alone.
